Canon Printer - SELPHY CP740

Canon Printer - SELPHY CP740The digital age has forever changed the way we watch and take pictures, not least because of the speed at which the final image can be produced, and then move to other media. Reporters graphics can have their photos on page within minutes and holiday snaps can be exchanged with friends just seconds after being captured.Canon Printer SELPHY CP range has been designed with this “instant gratification” principle in mind and the latest two models - the Canon CP750 and entry-level Canon CP740 examined here - have been released only as updated versions of the Canon CP730 and Canon CP720. Both are designed to be “part printers which are light, compact, elegant and easy to use, while the management of high quality, economy size fits without going through a PC.

The Canon CP740 base unit weighs only 940g and its 179.0 x 127.1 x 63.0mm dimensions are smaller than a small slice of bread. His Apple-like creamy color is clearly designed to complement your Mac and iPod and expansion of 2.0-inch LCD screen is squarely in the center of the top panel. It is about a series of buttons that control mode, design, visualization and date, as well as an innovative and welcome self-Red-Eye Correction through simple, self-explanatory icons.

The front panel contains four slots for memory cards that can cope with virtually none of the current versions of CF, SD, MMC, Memory Stick and xD. In addition, a group discreet on the front left hides a USB cable that can be attached to extendable PictBridge enabled cameras or Canon Direct Print devices.

Unfortunately, the downside of this beautiful machine looking upset is the method by which the photo tray is inserted into the front: a lot of huffing and puffing is necessary to properly into the slot. However, once in place you have five sizes to choose from (Postcard, Wide L, credit card and mini stickers) and you can see each image full-screen before printing.

What is impressive is the quality of the finished image. Each print has four passes to complete and it is fascinating to see the sharpness and clarity emerge gradually (postcards take about a minute), with the final step to add a high protective layer that protects brightness of splashes, spills and fingerprints. The CP740 uses 300dpi dye-sublimation printing technology that makes images with virtually no grain, as each item is printed up to 256 levels of intensity for each color.

If you’re feeling a little flush with more money, more expensive Canon CP750 has extra features such as’ My Colors’ photo effects (which include Black & White and Sepia), an optional battery pack and compatibility for IrSimple infrared printing mobile devices. Both models have improved skin tone to improve the reproduction of flesh tones.
